What have we been learning in room 28?

Wow! it has been a busy term! We would like to share with you what we have been learning in science in room 28.

We have been learning about the different groups animals belong to.  Some animals have characteristics that are the same.  We have been looking at some of the special features animals have and why they are grouped together.

We know that reptiles have cold blood, scales and they lay eggs.  Crocodiles, alligators, lizards, turtles and tortoise are reptiles.

We know that birds have feathers and wings.  We know birds have beaks and they lay eggs.  Birds have warm blood like us.

Did you know that you are a mammal?  Animals with hair, fur or wool, warm blood and live babies that drink milk are mammals.

We also know that animals live in lots of different places all over the world.  This is called their habitat.

But there are more groups to investigate!  Get mum and dad on board and see if you can find out information about some of the other animal groups there are.

Cultural sharing day!

The year one and two syndicates had a cultural sharing day here at Papatoetoe North School on Thursday the 26th of March.  The children met out on the courts, and what a sea of colour! They looked so beautiful in their cultural clothing. We had a parade and room 13 performed a Tongan dance for us! Then we danced to cultural  music before returning to our classroom for a shared lunch.  This day was a great reminder that although we are all different, we belong together.

Here are some photos from our special day:

Thank you to all the parents that came along to share this day with us.

Belonging

It has been an AWESOME first term for the year two syndicate! We have been learning about what it means to belong.  As one of our homework tasks, the children made posters showing what it means to belong in their family.  They did such a fantastic job and the posters are amazing! Thank you to all the families that participated in this task.

Here are some of the posters from room 28:

Thank you again to all the families that supported their children in sharing their culture and family life with us.
