Exploding volcano!!

In room 28, Finn brought an awesome book of experiments to school.  With the help of his family, he provided the materials we needed to make a volcano!

We made salt dough from flour and salt and oil.  We also used play dough.  We shaped the dough around a plastic bottle.

Then we painted the volcano black and sprinkled silver glitter over it for effect.

RARRR!

We poured warm water, red food colouring, dish-washing liquid and baking soda into the bottle.  Finn poured in the vinegar.

LAVA!

We learnt that baking soda and vinegar react.

Descriptive Writing

Room 27 listened to this video- without watching it. We used the words and different music we heard to describe what we felt and what we thought the story was about. We have used some amazing adjectives!

VJ wrote...
I closed my eyes and I heard a snake say "Trussssst me!"But I heard sneaky noises from the creepy movie. I heard adventurous music and I felt like it was a dream. I think it was full of mysterious noises. I heard noises that were about nature, animals coming out and the jungle.

TJ wrote...
I heard the trees falling down and the animals run through the falling trees. I heard an insidious sound on the movie trailer. The sound was so creepy that I want to hear it again. I think this story is about a Jurassic world.

Nela wrote...
I think it sounded like a spooky forest with a kingdom and a dragon. The dragon sounded terrifying it breathed fire. There were people in the kingdom and the dragon was frightening them.

Does it dissolve?

In Room 28, we have been learning about how matter can change.  Last Friday, we conducted an experiment to find out which solids dissolve in cold water.  We know that if a solid can dissolve in water, it is called soluble, and if it can't, it is called insoluble.

The solids we tested were sugar, sand, salt, pepper, coffee, oats and rice.

We predicted which solids would dissolve before testing them.  We did pretty well!

If there was still solid material in the bottom of the glass after stirring it, we knew it was insoluble in cold water.

We worked in small groups and everyone had a turn at doing different jobs.

We wrote about our experiment too! We felt like real scientists today.
Earlier in the week we also made cordial by dissolving flavoured sugar and jelly by dissolving jelly crystals.  I wonder ...what else dissolves in water?

Our school library has been taken over by robots!

The year two children and their families have made awesome robot friends this term out of recycled items.  We know that rubbish is a huge problem in the world.  The children worked with their families to come up with a plan and reuse their household rubbish.

Some of our robots will feature in the end of term assembly tomorrow on Friday the 24th of September.  After the assembly, feel free to have a look in our school library where you can see the rest of our fabulous robots!

Please remember, no touching.  A lot of time and effort has gone into making these.

Room 28's awesome outdoor games!

This term, the children in room 28 made outdoor games with their parents to play with at lunch breaks because we identified a problem.

Often, some children have nothing to do at lunch time.  We wanted to make some cool games which could be used outside to make our lunch breaks more exciting.

Check them out!

This game was made by Mahdiya

This is Finn's game.

Ayush made this cool Tic Tac Toe game.

And this is Connor's game.

This is how we play!

Room 27 Mixed Media Pop Art

Room 27 have been creating mixed media art this term. We looked at different types of Pop Art- the practice of using digital photographs and working with contrasting colours. These look very cool and brighten up our classroom.

Check out our bright display! Miss Johnson printed four photos of the same size and we had to selected contrasting colours to make these pictures "POP".

James worked very hard to make his pictures stand out, he used a mixture of hot and cold colours!

Robots have taken over room 28!
